His Best Friend's Girl: In the Line of Duty, Book 5 Page 16
Across from him Garrett yawned. “I’m hitting the bed. Work calls early tomorrow.”
“Yeah, I’m not too far behind,” Matt said. He finished off his beer and climbed to his feet, feeling the effects from the alcohol. He made a quick trip to the bathroom, tore off all his clothes, then threw himself onto Caleb’s comfortable bed. With the alcohol kicking his ass, he instantly fell asleep.
A noise at his door pulled him awake, and he rubbed his eyes in the dark trying to figure out what was going on. The door shut quietly and the mattress beside him sank.
“Hey,” Sky said, her warm, familiar scent falling over him. But he caught another scent too, that of something sweet. What was going on?
He sat up and rubbed his eyes harder, waiting for them to adjust in the dark, but the room was pitch black and he couldn’t see a damn things.
“Sky?” he croaked out his voice so hoarse from sleep he didn’t even recognize it. “What—?”
“Shhh…”
A hand went to his chest to push him back down and the next thing he knew she was straddling him. He nearly bit off his tongue. What the fuck? Was Sky really here with him or was this some sort of wet dream.
The instant he felt her lips on his mouth, his neck, his chest…his cock, he lost all ability to think. A low groan crawled out of his throat and he pressed his hand to his forehead as she worked her tongue over him. Pleasure gathered in his core and breathing became a little harder.
One hand cupped his balls, as her head bobbed, taking him in and out, and creating a rhythm that damn near had him exploding in her mouth. His muscles tensed, heat zinging through his body. She took him even deeper and when his crown hit the back of her throat, he gripped her hair and gave a little tug. Her excited moan resonated through his body.
He pulled her to him, and cupped her face, struggling to see her in the dark. “Sky,” he murmured as her mouth closed over his. Her kiss was deep, sensual, full of emotion as she settled on top of him. Powerless to her seduction, his hands slid down her back, and with need and urgency pulling at him, he gripped her shirt and tugged. She broke the kiss and sat up, and his heart pounded harder as he listened to the soft rustle of her clothes as she undressed. She momentarily slid off him and he listened to the hiss of her zipper as she removed her pants.
His head began spinning and he wished he hadn’t drank so much. But he couldn’t think about that right now, because Sky grabbed something from the nightstand and climbed back over him.
“Open your mouth,” she said.
“Sky?” Jesus, was that really him? His voice sounded so rough and gravelly.
“Cupcake,” she whispered.
His lips parted and she put her finger into his mouth. The taste of buttery icing exploded on his tongue. He sucked her finger harder, and she moved on top of him, grinding that sweet pussy of hers on his stomach. Cock swelling to the point of agony, he slid his hand along her arm until he found the cupcake in her hand. The thought of spreading that icing on her body and licking it off had heat roaring through him. Wanting, no, needing, to lick and taste every inch of her, he took the cupcake and placed it beside them. He cupped her ass hard and in one fluid movement, flipped her over, pinning her beneath him. Her breathless gasp urged him on, and the need to touch her, taste her, ram his cock all the way inside her grew stronger than ever.
With her caged beneath him, he grabbed her hands in one of his and held them over her head. Sky writhed beneath him, her body aching for his touch. Using his free hand, he dipped his finger into the icing and said, “Open your mouth.”
She obliged, and he put his finger in. She sucked him in deep, and his cock throbbed against her leg. “Mmm,” she moaned, her tongue licking the last of the sugar away.
Hunger prowled through him as he dipped into the icing again, but this time he spread it on one nipple. Her body went tight beneath him, but instead of licking it off, he let the buttery frosting melt over her warm breast, let her revel in the sensation as it warmed and dripped down her breasts.
She sucked in a quick breath, and he held her hands tighter. “Please…” she cried out, her voice trembling slightly.
He lowered his head and swallowed a groan as he drew her nipple into his mouth. Heat and fire burned freely through his body as he laved her hard bud. Her nipple grew taut, and he nibbled on it, his cock growing harder as he clamped down.
Taking a big dollop of icing, he smeared it down her body, stopping when he reached her pubis. A cry lodged in her throat.
He put his mouth close to her ear, and there was a warning beneath his words when he said, “Keep your hands above your head.”
Shifting positions, he let go of her hands and shimmied lower until he was between her legs. He gripped her thighs and widened them, and he felt the quiver that moved through her body. Falling over her, he put his hands on either side of her breasts and slowly licked a path downward, despite the fact that his cock was raging to get back inside her. With her body positioned perfectly, raw hunger nearly sucked the air from his lungs.
Her sweet moan as he lapped at the icing was music to his ears. He glanced up at her, wanting to see the heat in her eyes, but the room was too dark to see her. When he reached her pubis, he flattened himself on the mattress and shoved his hands beneath her to lift her slightly. Her aroused scent reached his nostrils, fueling the flames inside him. He spread her with his tongue, running the soft blade along her seam to widen her.
She rocked against him as he licked from bottom to top, his tongue landing firmly on her swollen clit. He took possession of her and greedily drew it into his mouth. Her legs hugged his head as his mouth pressed hungrily, taking her higher and higher. Her hips moved, and as he licked harder he could feel her soft quakes.
“Yes,” she murmured as her body tightened. He lengthened his tongue and stroked softly as she came in his mouth. Her moans of ecstasy echoed in his head, filling him with a measure of satisfaction.
Infused with lust, he climbed up her body, and in one quick thrust, drove his cock all the way inside. He powered forward, burrowing deep, and she met each thrust, both taking as giving as pressure built. Jesus, it was good. So fucking good.
His hands found hers and their fingers linked as he slammed deep and fast. Some small part of his brain reminded him this was Sky and he needed to slow down, that he should be a little more gentle with her. But that thought left his mind as quickly as it had entered when he felt her climax a second time. Her wet heat scorched his cock, and when she moaned and clenched around his length, he knew he was done for. Succumbing to his needs, he drove inside and stilled as he let go, completely depleting himself.
He fell on top of her and let her hands go. They curled around his body, and with no thoughts left in his brain he pulled out and rolled off her. Sleep pulled at him. He grabbed Sky and drew her to his chest, and the next thing he knew she was covering them up with a blanket.
A long while later the sound of the guys rising in the cottage pulled him awake. He opened his eyes, snippets of last night coming back in bursts. His head jerked to the left, to look for Sky, but when he found her side of the bed empty, he pinched his eyes shut. Had he dreamt it? He opened his eyes again, and when he saw the cupcake on the nightstand, his heart jumped into his throat. Sky had been here and he’d slept with her.
He kicked the blankets off and tried to sort through the haze in his brain. Climbing to his feet he looked out his small window, and when he saw Sky at the dock, talking with Caleb, understanding slowly dawned. Holy Christ. She must have thought she was climbing into bed with Caleb.
Everything from anger, love, pain and possession raced through him, and when he saw Caleb pull her into his arms, everything he felt for her rushed to his heart and one thought filled his head: Oh hell no!
Sky was his. End of story. And it was well past time that he let everyone know it. Starting with her. He grabbed his clothes from the floor and climbed into them. Pulling open his bedroom door, he stormed out and when he fo
und the others sipping coffee and staring at him, he left the cottage without saying a word.
He stomped down the path leading to the dock and when he reached it, both Sky and Caleb looked at him with surprise.
Sky opened her mouth to speak, but he shook his head to stop her. He reached for her hand and pulled her to him, and when those dark expressive eyes looked up at him, he cupped her face.
“I love you, Sky.”
“I love you too,” she said.
“No, you don’t understand. I’ve loved you since the day you scraped your knee and threw a little dirt on it. You’re not just the sky to me. You’re my moon, my stars, my world. You’re the toughest girl I know, yet the softest and the sweetest, and I need you in my life. But not as a friend.”
“We can never be friends again, Matt.”
“Sky, please, don’t say that.” Jesus, he needed her to listen, to understand. If he fucked things up between them… “I know you thought it was Caleb you crawled in with last night…” He stopped talking, took a breath and looked over her shoulder to find Caleb staring at him. “Caleb, I’m sorry. I thought…I wanted her to be happy. But I just…can’t…” His gaze returned to her. “I’ll do anything, whatever it takes to be worthy of you. Just please, tell me you’ll give me a chance.”
“Matt,” she said quietly. “What are you taking about?”
He sucked in a quick breath and let it out slowly. “I’ll be the kind of man you deserve, inside the bedroom and out.”
Her hands closed over his as they cupped her face. “You’re already that man. Don’t you see, I knew it was you in that bed.”
His heart missed a beat. “You did?”
“Of course I did. Caleb’s truck wasn’t here when I arrived last night, and I checked the boat to find it empty. That’s when I figured you were sleeping in his room.” A flush moved over her face, and she gave him a sweet, demure smile when she added, “The cupcake was part of your birthday present.”
The sound of his throat working as he swallowed cut through the air. “But you…” He paused and looked at Caleb, taking in his smirk. “I woke up and saw you and Caleb together.”
“No, you didn’t,” Caleb said. “And I’m getting out of here.” He walked past them and headed toward the cottage.
“I don’t get it,” he said, staring deep into her eyes.
“You were sleeping so soundly, and I needed to talk to Caleb. I thought I’d be back before you woke up.”
“Why did you need to talk to Caleb?”
“To explain how I feel.”
This was all coming at him from left field, and his brain raced to catch up. “So you knew…it was me?”
“Let’s get something straight,” she said. “It doesn’t matter to me if you’re a field ambulance technician, a civilian medical doctor or a bouncer at Sky Bar. It’s not what you do that matters to me, or makes you worthy.” She poked him in the chest. “It’s who you are in here.”
“And who is that?” he asked.
“The man I love, which is why we can never go back to just being friends.”
His throat closed up, making it hard to speak. “Sky—”
“You’re everything I ever wanted in a man. Inside the bedroom and out. Our pretend relationship was supposed to open Caleb’s eyes, but it opened mine instead. Caleb and I are friends, Matt, and that’s all will ever be. You and me, however…”
“So you mean…”
“I mean, we should go back to bed and celebrate. Today is your birthday, right? And those cupcakes came in a package of twelve.”
He shook his head, his heart filling with the love he felt for her. “I can’t believe this. I’m the luckiest man in the world.”
“And I’m the luckiest girl,” she said, going up on her toes to press her lips to his. “Now, about your birthday. I didn’t quite get any icing on your nose, and I believe I still owe you thirty spankings.”
He put his arms around her and scooped her up, heat rushing to his groin. A gasp caught in her throat, and her eyes filled with love and desire when he said, “You are one bad little girl, and if anyone needs a spanking it’s you.”
He was about to carry her back to bed when the sound of a car door slamming reached his ears. “I like the sound of that, but first, I have another birthday present for you.”
He frowned, having no idea what she was talking about, but then he heard barking. He set her back on her feet when Murphy came running down the dock toward him. He looked up to see Gemma waving to Sky.
He swallowed the lump pushing into his throat as he bent down on one knee to pet an excited Murphy. “Sky,” he croaked out. “You were the one who adopted him.”
A bird squawked in a nearby tree and Murphy took off running. They both laughed, and the humor fell from her face when he pulled her back into his arms. “If we’re going to move into Gran’s and make new memories, we can’t do it without Murph, right?”
It took a moment for him to catch his breath again. “I love you, Sky. I love you so much. I want to live with you. I want to marry you. I want to make babies and have a house full of kids with you.”
“Slow down,” she said laughing. “Let’s just celebrate your birthday first.” She cupped his face, love shining in her eyes as her gaze moved over his. “But do know that I want all those things too.”
“You are the sweetest girl I know.”
She gave him a playful wink. “And here you just told me I was bad.”
“Right,” he said, scooping her back up again. “A bad girl who needs to be spanked…”
“Hey, it’s your birthday, not mine.”
“So you don’t want me to spank you?”
Her face flushed. “Well…”
He grinned and started toward the cottage. “That’s what I thought.”
