When he pushed another finger inside all rational thought fled and she quivered beneath the gentle assault, the sweet stab of bliss filling her with a new kind of passion. He took full possession of her pussy, licking, sucking, stroking deeper and deeper until her body went up in a burst of flames. A cry escaped her lips as he drove her to the edge of ecstasy and took her beyond her wildest fantasies.
But he wasn’t in any hurry to let her tumble over. Oh no, he didn’t appear to be finished with his slow seduction. Instead, he delicately brushed her G-spot, and the light furtive touch had air ripping from her lungs. He eased his finger out only to sink it back inside again. His touch was slow, deeply intimate, making her feel things she’d never felt before. As she slipped deeper and deeper into a place she said she wouldn’t go, she raked her fingers through his hair, needing him to end the sweet torment before she shattered into a million pieces. She began trembling and panting, her body exploding from the inside out as tingling sensations overtook her.
Slowly, methodically, his thumb circled her swollen clit, and, giving her no reprieve from the sheer delight burning through her blood, he continued to feast on her like a man starved for so much more than just sex.
Honestly, he knew just how to touch, just how much pressure to apply to bring her to the edge and keep her hovering there. No man had ever been so in tune with her body before, so thorough, so unselfish.
Jon continued to stroke her with expertise, his tongue searing her clit as every nerve in her body screamed for release. Small tremors pulled at her core, and her breath came in jagged bursts.
As if knowing she was close he burrowed a finger inside her and she could feel the pressure building, coming to a peak. Her body began thrumming, entirely lost in the moment. Entirely lost in Jon.
“That’s it, sweetheart. Come for me now.”
Warmth pooled between her thighs and the pleasure was so intense, she gripped his shoulders to hang on. She grew slicker with each stroke and her breath caught in her throat as white-hot desire claimed her. She threw herself back on the bed and concentrated on the heat in her body as her pussy pulsed and throbbed with the hot flow of release.
Jon stayed between her legs for a long time, licking her gently until her muscles finally stopped spasming. Then he filled his lungs with her scent before he lifted his head and offered her a smile, one that was so full of warmth and tenderness it made her worry about what she’d gotten herself into. She suddenly wasn’t so sure she could actually do casual sex with him.
“Jon,” she said as her body and heart hummed for so much more from this man. That’s when she remembered she hadn’t bought condoms in a long time. Her heart leapt in her chest, and she met his glance.
“Yeah?” he asked, as he pressed himself over her body, caging her between the mattress and his hard chest.
“Tell me you have a condom.”
He frowned. “I don’t. I never thought…”
“I’m not on the pill,” she rushed out.
Jon smoothed her hair from her face. “It’s okay, Lila. We’ll pick some up tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow? But I want you now.”
His soft laugh trickled through her veins and her toes curled when he tucked her hair behind her ears. “Believe me, I want you too, sweetheart.”
He slipped off her body and when she felt his hard cock, she knew there were ways to please him. “What about you…we didn’t…”
“Lila, you don’t have to—”
He didn’t get the chance to finish his sentence because the second she wrapped both hands around him and stroked his length he sank back into the sheets.
“Jesus,” he murmured and when she felt his cock thicken with blood she knew how close he was. She dipped into the juice pearling on his crown and used it to lubricate him. With her hands sliding over his impressive girth, she shifted on the mattress and climbed between his legs. His eyes met hers when she wet her lips in preparation.
She cupped his balls and stroked quicker but when she leaned forward, Jon cupped her face and stopped her from wrapping her mouth around his cock. He held her back, which was too bad really, because her mouth was watering for a taste of him. His hips came off the bed, and when he powered upward, once, twice, she could feel the blood pumping through his veins.
Knowing the pressure was mounting, she ran her hands over his crown. “Come for me, Jon,” she murmured, and that’s when he let go.
He pulsed in her hands, and she loved that she could do this for him, loved that she could make him feel this good.
Once his tremors subsided, he pulled her to him. She was about to ask him why he’d stopped her from going down on him, but he pressed his mouth to hers. His kiss was so soft and gentle it caught her by surprise and stole her words. Then he murmured into her mouth, “At least one good thing came from having no condoms.” His lips curved into a crooked smile.
Rattled by the things this man made her feel, Lila crinkled her nose and tried to keep her voice light. “Really? And what is that?”
“We get to do this again tomorrow.”
Jon pulled her in tight and when he kissed her again, a slow, lazy kiss meant to carry them through until morning, she realized just how nice it felt to be held by him. She looked into his gorgeous eyes, and her heart stuttered at the tenderness on his face.
She swallowed hard, because Jon was everything she was looking for in a guy. Not only was he utterly skilled in the bedroom, he was the least-selfish man she knew. Tonight he’d taken the time to pleasure her, asking for nothing in return. Honestly, she was beginning to give up hope that men like Jon actually existed.
Lila instantly knew that rolling in the sheets with a guy like Jon was scarier than riding the winter roads with bald tires. Because there was no denying that she was falling for him. Not a wise move on her part, considering he was only going to be around for the holidays.
Unless someone gave him a reason to stay…
Chapter Seven
The piercing sound from the fire alarm had Jon turning off the gas burner and opening the back door to let in a gust of cold, morning air. He coughed on the smoke clouding the kitchen, and when he heard the sound of footsteps rushing down the stairs, he spun around. The second he set eyes on Lila’s sleepy, mussed state, warm intimacy curled around him and he tossed her a sheepish smile.
“I was trying to make you breakfast in bed.” He held up the pan and showed her four strips of bacon, or what used to be bacon before he got his hands on them. Right now they were charred and crispy and looked like he was preparing some sort of sacrificial offering. “But I’m not very good at this.”
Lila tightened the belt on her robe and as she hugged herself against the chill in the air she gave a lighthearted laugh that went right through him. Her mood was playful when she said, “Why don’t you just stick to doing things in bed that you are good at.”
Jon shut the door and moved toward her. “But you’ve been doing so much for me that I wanted to do something for you.”
Lila tossed the pan in the sink and grabbed another. “But I like doing this for you, remember.” She nodded toward the upstairs. “And besides, it’s not like you haven’t done anything for me.”
Jon couldn’t help but grin at her sexual innuendo. In fact, he could feel himself getting warm all over again. “I liked doing that for you, Lila.”
“Good, because we still have a few days before you leave and since you like it so much, I plan to let you do a lot of it.”
His grin widened. “That’s awfully kind of you.”
Her chuckle was breathy, intimate, and his body tightened, anxious to crawl between her legs again.
Lila shuffled around in her fluffy bunny slippers and grabbed some eggs from the fridge.
Jon felt a little pinch in his heart. “You don’t have to go through all this trouble.”
She gave him a sassy wink and turned the kitchen thermostat up a notch. “Maybe I think you’re worth the trouble.”
As he looked at her he re
alized just how much he liked her, just how much he’d lost himself in her last night, which was one of the reasons he’d stopped her from going down on him. In his book that act was more intimate than intercourse. If a girl like her, one who was the epitome of home and hearth, ever wrapped her mouth around his cock, then the wall he’d built around his heart just might come crumbling down.
There was no denying that Lila made him forget, made him feel things other than guilt and sadness. And even though he swore he was going to stay away from her, the second she opened herself to him, he knew he was done for, knew he couldn’t stop even if he wanted to.
Christ, he really was a selfish bastard.
He stepped up to her and ran his hands up and down her arms to warm her. When he noticed the sexy pink flush on her cheeks, all he could think about was once again losing himself in her sweetness.
With a bemused expression on her face, she said, “Why don’t you have a seat and let me finish this.”
Before he could respond, the back door flung open and they both turned to see Jacob Collins darkening the doorway, a huge Saint Bernard dog by his side.
Jon broke the embrace and stepped back as Jacob’s gaze went from Lila to Jon back to Lila again. “Is everything okay? I was out walking Charlie when I heard your smoke detector.”
Lila smiled at him and Jon had an instant pang of jealously. He cursed under his breath, because this thing between them was just supposed to be about sex, a little holiday indulgence. He was not supposed to be feeling more for her.
“Everything is fine. Just some charred bacon.”
Jacob rubbed his dog’s head. “Ah, Charlie’s favorite.”
Lila crinkled that cute little nose of hers. “I think this might be a little overdone even for Charlie.” She patted her leg. “Here, boy.”
As Charlie raced across the room, barreling into Lila, she waved her hand toward the stools. “Grab a seat, Jacob. Have breakfast with us.”
Jacob hesitated and looked at Jon. “Are you sure? If you’re busy…”
Lila laughed and Jon could feel the affection and comfort between the two. “Give me a break, Jacob. You and I both know it wasn’t the smoke alarm that had you running over here, it was the smell of bacon.” She pointed a spatula at the stool. “Now sit.”
Jacob shot Jon a glance as he plunked himself down. “She knows me too well.” Then he looked at the ingredients she was pulling out of the fridge. “Are you making those yummy blueberry pancakes too?”
Lila rolled her eyes, but Jon didn’t miss the gleam, one that told him how much she loved cooking for others. “For you Jacob, anything.”
“Well, only if you’re making them,” he said, rubbing his stomach as she poured him a big mug of coffee. He turned to Jon. “I told her if she keeps feeding me like this, I’m going to fall in love with her.” He gave Jon a wink. “Careful there, pal, or the same thing will happen to you too.”
As an uneasy feeling closed in on him, Jon glanced at the clock and said, “I should get going.”
Lila turned to him. “But you didn’t eat and I thought we were going to talk after breakfast.”
“We’ll talk later, and no worries, I’ll just grab something at the coffee shop. Besides, I want to get in early and get some paperwork done that I brought with me.” He was just about to leave when he remembered Lila’s bald tires. “Do you have to go anywhere today?”
“Dani is picking me up at two.”
“I just don’t want you driving on those tires.”
“I can drive her anywhere she needs to go,” Jacob piped in as he took a swig of coffee.
“Fine,” Jon said, pushing down an ugly wave of jealousy as Jacob continued to sit at the counter looking so at home with Lila that it made Jon want to punch him in the face.
Christ, he had no claims on her. They both agreed that what was between them was sex and he’d be wise to remember that.
Jon snatched his coat off the rack and made his way to his vehicle. After grabbing a bagel and coffee he drove to the clinic to begin his day. In no time at all the waiting room filled up and patient after patient came to see him. And as he greeted old friends, no one brought up the accident and for that he was grateful. If he didn’t know better, he’d think they were genuinely happy to see him, most even asking if he was home for good, because not only did they appear to miss him, each one voiced that the town really needed another doctor.
Before Jon knew it, noon was upon him, and he was grateful for the break, needing time to sort through his feelings about the town and the way the people in it were reacting toward him. He pushed back in his chair just as Kira Doherty, Dani’s receptionist, poked her head in.
“Your morning appointments are finished which means you’re free until one thirty.” She pointed at her watch and her straight white teeth flashed in a smile. Jon returned her smile, thinking back to when Kira wore braces and climbed the trees with him and her brother, Sam. Kira had certainly changed since those days, and the last he’d heard, Sam Doherty had become a ghost hunter in New Mexico. Jon had never thought he’d see the day when Sam believed in the paranormal. Then again, when they were kids, camping out in the backyard and getting ready for sleep after pouring over superman comics, Sam always left his flashlight on. Perhaps he really could see things that Jon couldn’t.
Kira tucked a blonde curl behind her ear. “I’m heading to the Seafarer for lunch. Would you like to join me?”
He considered joining her and his stomach grumbled, a reminder that the bagel he’d scarfed down after ruining breakfast hadn’t been enough to carry him through the morning. But thinking of his failed attempt to make Lila breakfast in bed had his thoughts lingering on the incredible night they’d had and he suddenly found himself smiling.
“Everything okay?”
“Fine,” he answered, “Just remembering something.” As warmth moved through him, he knew he was treading on dangerous territory when it came to Lila, but he couldn’t seem to resist her or her offer for a little holiday indulgence.
“So you’ll join me then? Everyone will be there, and Errol, Byron and Harold will be at their usual table, meddling, and scheming up their next bet.”
At the mention of Errol, he glanced at the phone. He’d yet to call the exterminator. Since he really didn’t want to hang out at the Seafarer, a place where good friends all came together for a meal—a place he no longer belonged—it was the perfect excuse to turn down her offer. Plus, he had to put a call into his old friend, Jonah, the town’s top mechanic. Then something else Kira said caught his attention, which had him thinking about what Lila had said the other day, something about Errol not really needing the cane. “Wait, what did you say? What about Errol meddling and scheming?”
She opened her mouth to answer, but a noise at the door in the waiting room drew their attention. Kira spun around, and he caught disappointment on her face when she turned back to him and said, “Never mind. Looks like lunch came to you.”
Jon glanced past Kira’s shoulders as she moved down the hall toward the receptionist’s counter and that’s when he saw Lila walking toward him. After noting that she was dressed in a parka and a sexy skirt, he looked at the huge lunch basket in her arms.
The second he set eyes on her he felt a rush of sexual energy. She greeted him, but this time her smile was more sexy than sweet when she said, “I figured you might be hungry.”
Jon stood, worry pulling at him. “You didn’t drive here did you?”
“No need to worry. Jacob drove me.” She laughed and added, “That guy will do anything for food.”
Jon looked down the hall. “Where is he now?”
“He had to run some errands and then he’ll be back to pick me up later.” She closed and locked the door behind her, then plunked the basket on his desk. She pulled out a stack of sandwiches, followed by fruit, drinks and cheese.
He looked at all the food. “If you keep feeding me like this—”
“What, you’ll fall in love with m
e?”
He swallowed hard, because he was beginning to believe that could very well be the case. “I was going to say, I’ll be able to fill out Santa’s suit without the stuffing.”
She poked him in the stomach. “I saw you naked, Jon, and believe me, you won’t be filling that out anytime soon. Besides,” she added, her mouth turning up in a devious smile, “it’s not your heart I’m after.”
She was right, this was about sex, and that was exactly what he wanted. So why, then, did it bother him to hear her say it? And why did it have him feeling like he’d been punched in the gut. Christ, what the hell was going on with him? He really needed to get it together.
Feeling edgy and a little out of control, he turned his focus to the food. “You didn’t have to go through all the—”
She poked him in the chest and cut him off again. “Oh, did you somehow think this little afternoon rendezvous was all about you?”
Confused, he raised a brow. “What do you mean?”
“You see, Jon.” She shrugged out of her parka, then reached back into the basket. “It might be lunchtime, but I’m not hungry for food.” She pulled out a box of condoms and pressed her body against his. “It’s you I want. Right here. Right now.”
Jon darted a nervous glance around the examination room. “Lila, what are you doing?”
“Finishing what we started.” The air instantly charged, sexual energy arching between them.
Jon pinched his eyes shut, understanding what she had in mind probably wasn’t a good idea, for numerous reasons, but when she released the button on his pants and pulled them wide open, his body turned traitorous. The little vixen was seducing her way into his pants and his heart and there wasn’t a damn thing he could do about it. He wanted to say something to stop this, but when she sank to her knees and drew his hard cock between her lips before he even realized what she was doing, the only thing that came out of his mouth was a loud growl of pleasure.
“Jesus, Lila.” He groaned and closed his eyes against the flood of heat.
She ran her tongue over his swollen tip, then drew him deeper, but it wasn’t just what she was doing to him that had him all tangled up inside. It was the soft, sexy moans of pleasure in her throat, moans that told him how much she enjoyed doing this for him.
